But it's still obtainable among traders :) I've only watched it a few times (already more than a year ago), so I can't give you a proper description - but I remember it was shot in some play/fair-ground...

Venus As A Boy:
    * Click Here for more information on Sophie Muller.
    * An excerpt from Details, July 1994.
I ask her about the video Venus as a Boy, in which she suggestively fondles an egg while singing explicitly about copulation. In the video the egg is eventually fried. This touches off a slightly sore spot for Björk. She gave Sophie Muller, the video director, a copy of Story of the Eye a couple of days before they filmed the but didn't insist that she read it. Muller didn't have the time.
She kept going on about it being fried, sighs Björk with exasperation. I was saying, `No way is that book about a fried egg! I'm sorry. Poached? Okay. Boiled? Okay. Raw? Okay. But not fried. And a fried egg is unsuitable because......? Because it's too hard. It's rough and it's greasy, It should be about being sort of liquidy and wet and soft and open..... After the video was finished, Sophie called Björk. She had read the book. Now she agreed with Björk: Fried was the wrong egg.

    * From Marty on BEP: On the UK TV program Play UK on November 17th 2001 there was a program on director Michel Gondry. Bjork was on it again talking about the videos they've made. They mentioned the trilogy of Human Behaviour , Isobel and Bachelorette about a girl born in the forest from a spark who lives by instinct and is trying to fight logic.
Big Time Sensuality:
    * Click Here for more information on Stephane Sedanoui.
    * From Marty on BEP: On the UK TV program Play UK on August 14th 2001 there was a video on director Stephane Sednaoui. Stephane and Bjork (not together) talked about Big Time Sensuality and Possibly Maybe. Bjork's interview bits were from the same time as the recent TOTP+ interview. When Stephane first heard Bjork's music he liked it so much he said he was available to direct a video for her. BTS was originally going to be done in Iceland but the budget wasn't big enough so Stephane suggested New York. So Bjork said she ended up filming on the back of the truck for 12 hours. Finally a Bjork quote on music videos: "I'm so naive, I actually think they can save the world."

Play Dead:
    * Excerpt of an interview from VOX, december 1993:
When I met David Arnold he'd already written the score - like a three minute greatest hits of what's in the film - and Jah Wobble had written the bass part. My role was basically to write a melody and a lyric that would make it into a pop song.
Björk persuaded the director to write a whole page comprising phrases that represented the emotions of the characters in the film.
At the end of the day I only used the title and one line: "Sometimes, it's just like sinking." For the rest, I used my words, because I could see what point of view I was supposed to be singing from. It was very difficult for me because at that time I was very happy and all the lyrics I've done lately have been happy and hilarious. To do something so painful I had to get help from Danny.
Violently Happy:
    * A Violently Happy video promo was released in France (Island - catalogue #: bco93172) in PAL format in a clear plastic sleeve.

They mentioned the trilogy of Human Behaviour , Isobel and Bachelorette about a girl born in the forest from a spark who lives by instinct and is trying to fight logic. In Isobel she goes off to the city to spread her message but ends up heartbroken and becomes isolated. Bjork said the name ISOBEL was derived from the first 3 letters of ISOlated.

When Stephane first heard Bjork's music he liked it so much he said he was available to direct a video for her. Bjork said the Possibly Maybe video was very personal as all the items in it were hers in her own house. Finally a Bjork quote on music videos: "I'm so naive, I actually think they can save the world."
A Quick excerpt from the Stephane Sednaoui documentary "Life Through A Lens":
Stephane: Two years after the Big Time Sensuality video, we did another, for a song called Possibly Maybe. And it was more intense and more like things... inside of her.
Björk: I think we were very brave. We showed a lot of things that were very, very personal. I think all the things in that video are actually my things... that are in my house.
Stephane: I love the video because she is very cute. We were trying to show a little more fragility or sensitivity. And you see her maybe more in contrast. So it was a precious video for me.

In Bachelorette she's grown up and goes off again but decides she hasn't the right to change people to her thinking, she ends up alone again with nature.
    * Ever wonder what was written in that book? Look no further. It is all printed In the Bachelorette 'Greatest Hits' special at bjork.com.
Alarm Call:

    * Alarm call was shot in London on October 29-30th, 1998.
    * More 'Alarm Call' information can be found in this MTV press release.
    * The unreleased Alarm Call video was shot in March of 1998, in LA. This Paul White video was filmed in San Fransico, and involved a subway dance scene (In an underground station?) It was shot in LA at a Farmers Market, and Bjork had long finger nails like on the Homogenic cover. Apparently the end result was not satisfactory to Bjork.

    * Who made this video? Just look at the Video Credits.
    * What was the original Video treatment? Why, just read it!
    * The Sunday Times had a quick article on this video, including comments from Chris Cunningham and Bjork (Excerpts, thanks to the bjork.com: Currently, Cunningham is looking at rough footage of his video for Björk's next single, All is Full of Love. He is ensconced in a post-production suite in Soho finishing an elaborate segment that features a pair of white robot "Björks" having sex. After courting controversy with Come to Daddy he is sanguine about the reaction to writhing non-humans. "I do not think," chuckles the 28-year-old, "there are any rules about robots having sex." Cunningham, in a field characterised by gimmickery, is that rarity, a director with vision. "Most video directors have one trick that they use all the time," says Björk, who has a long history of working with avant-garde visual artists. "Then there are people who build a whole world around them. Chris is like that." Björk thinks that "We have only seen the tip of the iceberg with Chris. He is only just coming into his own," and it is obvious that films are where Cunningham will finally realise his talent.

    * In some areas, the video for Pagan Poetry was played before the Richard Linklater film "Waking Life" in theatres.
    * Pagan Poetry is likely censored for TV viewing in some areas, but no alternate cut has been made.
    * On October 26th, the The National Film Theatre / Music Week / Promo magazine started a 'Music On Screen' season at NFT. They screened Björk's video for Pagan Poetry to start the presentation.
    * Björk had a press conference in Parma (Italy) on November 7th, 2001. She commented on her video for Pagan Poetry. "I tried to visualize the delirium of love, comparable to that one of drugs. The images represent the emotional state of someone who's falling in love and feels the fear of giving her body and her soul to the other, but they don't have to be 'read' in their literal meaning. Falling in love does not only involve sweetness and tenderness, but also fear and suffering: you lose independence and rationality."
    * NME.com has an interview with Nick Knight, the director of Pagan Poetry. To read the full article please click here.
In it, he states that it was his intention to show a "different side" to the Icelandic singer. "The first third of the video is almost completely abstract, and then it is a very strong performance straight to camera. I wanted to strip her down. She's actually quite raw, womanly and sexy. There's a different side to her that doesn't come across normally in her videos. That's what I asked her to do and that's what she did. Her dress stops just below her breasts and she's sewn pearls into her skin. She approached me with the idea. Her original idea in Iceland was to sew pearls into her nipples. She wanted to show her sexuality. There are two obvious piercings right at the end. If anybody is squeamish they should avoid the last 20 seconds. The piercings are in the back. But it's not tribal or S&M - it's about a women's love for a man."
    * View the Pagan Poetry UK promo video, click here. * Here is a quick excerpt from This Interview featuring Nick Knight and the magazine Numero:
"Numuro: You recently worked with Bjork...
Nick Knight: Yes. I've just shot the Pagan Poetry video. You can watch Bjork sewing a wedding dress. The idea is that the devouring passion for her future spouse induces her to sew the dress straight into her skin. It's a dress by Lee [Alexander McQueen]. It's incredibly beautiful, made of a very transparent fabric. The structure of the dress is a corset of an antique tulle that seems to be integral part of Bjork. It stops just below her breasts, and she even sews the pearls into her skin. She went far about piercing, believe me.
Numuro: The video will certainly rouse controversy.
Nick Knight: During our first encounter, I realized that she was much stronger and she emanated much more power than her media image let appear. I wanted to show off this power. In this moment, the production is wondering in which countries they'll be able to release the clip. It's sure, we'll put it online on our site showstudio.com.
    * A stunningly good article on the making of Pagan Poetry was sent to bjork.com. To read it, just Click Here and go to the 'Pagan Poetry' subsection.
Cocoon:
    * On October 16th, the The National Film Theatre / Music Week / Promo magazine started a 'Music On Screen' season at NFT. They screened Björk's yet unreleased video Cocoon as the first film before their Unseen and Unclean (Banned Videos) presentation. They screened Pagan Poetry on October 26th, again as the first film in this presentation.
    * Visit an Eiko Ishioka Info Site.
    * From Tinyspark: The Italian art and multimedia magazine c@rnet has a special about Japan. In the October 2001 issue there is an article on the Cocoon video directorEiko Ishioka. The article has a little storyboard for the video, and Eiko talking a bit about making it. Eiko says that making this video was really a special event because of Björk's professionality and the staff that support her performance. She says she built the video on the structure of the song, trying to make it unique, artistic, quiet and unlike any video we've ever seen..
    * Gaelyn Designs made the rubber suit in "Cocoon." The company website is at BetterInLatex.com. This company was established in early 2000, and has created designs with recycled bicycle inner tubes and Latex Sheeting.

1998 Free Tibet (Tibetan Freedom Concert)
tibetan freedom concert * Sarah Pirozek filmed this documentary combining interviews with concert footage of the 1996 San Francisco Tibetan Freedom Concert, which attracted 100,000 people to Golden Gate Park. Included are current-events clips With numbers (or partial performances) from top groups (Beastie Boys, Bjork (Performing Hyperballad), Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Beck & others...)
Running time is 90 minutes on VHS, there is a little bit of added footage on DVD.
*"As concert film Free Tibet suffers from terrible sound and inexplicably bad editing. Many of the performances are abbreviated or interrupted with cutaways to pointless interviews with audience members who have nothing intelligent to say."
"And some of the performances are magnificent, Including [...] Bjork's passionate and frenetic version of "Hyperballad." - Al Weisel

26. INSIDE BJORK
I can't stress enough how helpful and amazing the official Bjork website has been contributing to this addition (and the rest of this website!). Visit them. Now.
This documentary chronicles Bjork's career from 1993 to 2002 and was made to support the release of the Greatest Hits / Family Tree albums. Numerous big names provide comment, including Elton John, John Tavener, Thom Yorke, Missy Elliot, Sean Penn, Alexander McQueen, Lars von Trier, Graham Massey, Zeena Parkins, Matmos, RZA, Beck and Stella McCartney. Hilversum Channel 5 commissioned Endemol UK's production arm Initial to produce this documentary. As posted on Endemol.com; This documentary called 'Inside Björk' details the career of one of the world's most innovative artists, Björk Guðmundsdóttir. It will be aired in September 2002. With exclusive access to the star, Inside Björk (1 x 60') will chart Björk's unorthodox career from her early work in Icelandic acts Tappi Tikarrass, Kukl and The Sugarcubes to huge international acclaim for her solo work. The singer will reveal, for the first time, the secrets of her creative process by giving the viewer a look at her home and studio. The Grammy and Brit Award winning artist is renowned for her distinctive sound and has admirers including Madonna, Prince, Bono and REM's Michael Stipe. Plus the documentary will controversially include an interview with 'Dancer in the Dark' director, Lars Von Trier. Sham Sandhu, Controller of Youth Music and Interactive commented: "The success of our specials on Britney and Kylie show that we are the home of pop-focused music biogs, but with Inside Björk I'm very excited to start widening Channel 5's music programming into slightly more challenging areas."

27. THE MUSIC ROOM    This special focused on Iceland music, and of course that would include bjork. To visit the official website for the show just Click Here. To read a partial text transcription of the show (With the Bjork bits), just click here.

28. There have been MANY bjork performances on TV. Eventually this site will list them all. email me if you have any contributions! Come on people, send in your info!
